The Challenge

The Alligator Head Foundation works in Port Antonio, Jamaica, for fish-filled seas, abundant reefs, and thriving communities. Their monitoring, restoration, and protection programs focus on threatened Diadema sea urchins and staghorn coral, and they needed infrastructure to support that work and bring visitors face to face with marine life.

Our Solution

In 2019, Max was contracted to design and install multiple closed-loop aquaculture systems: fiberglass propagation raceways with a protein skimmer, calcium reactor, water chiller, and LED lighting; two partitioned 40-gallon research systems for local scientists; and a 300-gallon display aquarium to educate visitors.

The Result

The foundation now has a living laboratory where local and visiting scientists can conduct experiments and observe organisms up close, plus a display aquarium that lets every visitor connect directly with marine life.
